About GULP

Where Food, Art and Storytelling Meet

Step into the extraordinary world of artist and sensory designer Kaye Winwood — a true pioneer in the fusion of food, art and immersive experiences.

For more than two decades, Kaye has explored how food can move beyond the plate to become a powerful medium for storytelling, creativity and sensory exploration. Working at the intersection of gastronomy and visual art, she has created groundbreaking dining experiences that challenge how we taste, see and feel food.

Her pioneering concept of “expanded dining” reimagines the act of eating as a multi-sensory journey — combining flavour with sound, texture, light, narrative and environment to create unforgettable moments around the table.

Kaye’s work has been commissioned and presented by leading cultural organisations including Barbican, Midlands Arts Centre, Venice Design Biennale, Ikon Gallery, Flatpack Festival and Supersonic Festival, where she has created ambitious dining events that blur the boundaries between theatre, installation and gastronomy.

Her immersive projects have ranged from theatrical eight-course dining journeys inspired by the Apollo 11 moon landing, to experimental sound-led meals and interactive sensory banquets that transform eating into an artistic performance.

Today, Kaye brings this extraordinary creative practice to GULP, her intimate 10-seat dining studio hidden within a Grade II listed building in Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter.

Here, visitors are invited into a world where:

● places become tasting menus

● architecture becomes sensory inspirations

● history becomes flavour

Through a programme of immersive dining events, sensory workshops and collaborative creative experiences, GULP offers a unique way to experience Birmingham — one that engages all the senses.

For curious travellers, creative explorers and lovers of extraordinary food experiences, this is Birmingham storytelling at its most imaginative.
