Tasting the Jewellery Quarter: Sensory Walk & Dining Experience

  • Gulp 58 Spencer Street Birmingham, England, B18 6DS United Kingdom (map)

Step beyond the shopfronts and experience the Jewellery Quarter like never before.

This unique small-group experience begins with a guided sensory walk. As you wander through one of Birmingham’s most fascinating historic areas, its hidden streets and historic squares, your guide reveals the Quarter through sight, sound, smell and texture — from the scent of metal workshops to the intricate details of centuries-old craftsmanship.

Along the way, you’ll discover that the streets are paved with more than gold, as stories unfold of artisans, overlooked architectural details, historic cemeteries, and the creative energy that still defines this neighbourhood today.

Your journey culminates at GULP, an intimate creative dining studio tucked within a Grade II listed building.

Here, artist and sensory designer Kaye Winwood presents a multi-course tasting menu shaped by your walk. Each dish interprets an element of the Jewellery Quarter’s character - its materials, textures, hidden histories and creative spirit - transforming the neighbourhood into an unforgettable sensory story.

This experience has been developed as part of Sensing the JQ - a research-led project reimagining the unique character of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter through sound, scent, touch, taste and visuals — a creative celebration of its histories, people and places.
