Hands On Sensuality

It’s been a long time coming but Hands On Sensuality is returning…

Hands On Sensuality explores the sensual potential of dining from our own hands, and what happens when we think beyond the plate and the conventional ways we eat.

The hand becomes the vessel.

Across the experience, each course is served on a different part of the hand or wrist, transforming something familiar into something unexpected. Food is designed not simply to be tasted, but to be touched, held, traced, pressed, lifted and eaten, inviting you to notice the sensations that happen before, during and after the moment of eating.

The work was first presented before lockdown, but when touch suddenly became something we were told to avoid. Intimacy and proximity were no longer quite so simple.

Now, some years later, Hands On Sensuality is returning.

I’m so excited to present it at GULP, the place where I have continued to develop my practice of Expanded Dining, using food as a material for exploring memory, sensation, place and connection.

It feels like the right time to revisit it.

Hands On Sensuality was developed to explore the sensual potential of dining from our own hands, exploring the sensory impact of eating beyond the plate.

As part of the events, the hand was transformed into a re-imagined vessel for consumption, with each course being served on a different areas of the hand or wrist. Each of the courses has been carefully designed to invoke different sensations, drawing a link between sensuality and the experience of eating.

This is one for curious appetites!
